'Thoracic Bridging' For The Squash Player (and everyone else)

For a lot of people, a lack of mobility in and around certain joints really limits their ability to move freely around the squash court. For people that work in desk-bound jobs in particular, sitting at a desk hunched over a keyboard all day can also cause a number of additional issues that lead to pain and dysfunction.

Check out the url above where Max Shank discusses his '30 second mobility cure' centered around the Thoracic Bridge exercise. This drill is particularly useful for squash, in that it addresses mobility issues in both the hip and the shoulder, perhaps the two most important joint regions for players of all levels.

The site the piece appears (T-Nation.com) is geared predominantly toward bodybuilding and powerlifting, but don't let that put you off – there is still some excellent and very applicable content on there for the more general sportsperson. Check out the article, and try incorporating the Thoracic Bridge into your next squash warm-up or dedicated mobility session.
